Carbon Fiber Starter Kit

Sold Out/Discontinued

This item has been sold out or discontinued and is no longer available for purchase.

This carbon fiber kit includes all of the basic materials you will need to make a small carbon fiber part, make a repair or skin a product in carbon fiber. The best part is that our carbon fiber kits are small and affordable and include everything you need to get started. That means you won’t have to break the bank to buy large quantities of materials.

These carbon fiber kits have been used to repair or reinforce kiteboards, landboards, carbon fiber lips, carbon fiber hoods, interior pieces, R/C vehicles and more.

The epoxy system is very clear once cured, UV-resistant and much stronger than cheap polyester resin systems.

  • 1 piece of REAL 3k 2x2 twill carbon fiber fabric 24” x 50”
  • 6.67 oz of epoxy resin
  • 3.33 oz of epoxy hardener

My experience

All the supplies where in great condition. However my package arrived with a hue hole in it. It was left outside my appartment which is not what should have been done. Not sure who's fault that was. The kit however is great for beginners like me.

Some items were missing and

Some items were missing and the bottles that contain epoxy resin and hardener, were labeled LR and S respectively. The wax release agent has no label. As a beginner in this field, I was expecting that those chemicals were labeled appropriately, especially that those chemicals are considered "Hazardous". I called and spoke to the customer representative and let her know. She stated that she will get in touch with the company (Illstreet) and send me the missing items (gloves and stirrers). Until now I have not receive those items. As much as I want to give you 5 STARS, I don't think you deserve it on this instance. Now, I am afraid to order more materials or tell my friends about your site.

Impressive

I am impressed that the starter kit actually came with everything I needed to get started including a small set of instructions. I have already made a carbon fiber repair to try my skills. I repaired an old ice cream maker where the arm broke off that was used to clamp it to the bucket. Going to make ice cream this next week to see how I did. Its probably the most expensive 70's ice cream maker you can find, but its better than the new ones. It is my opinion there is only 2 things missing from the kit and both are part of the instructions. First, what is the green stuff in the bottle. I can only assume it is a releasing agent so I can make a template without my fiber sticking to something, and for a beginner is it easier to start with small parts of carbon fiber or bigger parts. From my repair, which was small, i think it is probably easier to start with bigger pieces due to the way the fiber is woven together and how it reacts once it is cut. Wanting to come undone. Overall, very happy with the kit itself. I used a small children's cough syringe to measure the epoxy and hardener but everything else I already had at home. Very excited to work on my next project. I will definitely buy more from http://www.carbonfibergear.com/

Really everything I need?

Small blue bottle not labeled short directions don't describe what it is. Wondering if I need epoxy resistant film to get the finish I'm looking for. Some kits have it others don't. Not real sure if it's a necessity or not.
